Students Celebrate Reading at Field Day


On Friday, April 17, students in grades K5 through 4th were rewarded with a field day for meeting their accelerated reading goals. The goals were set according to grade level and students who reached the their goals were offered the chance to participate in a day of fun. Activities included games such as sack racing, balloon pop, beanbag toss and dizzy dizzy ding-dong.

“My favorite part of field day was when we got to pop balloons and play bean bag toss,” Dylan Carter, 1st grade, said.

Students were served popsicles and other treats.

“My favorite part was when we got to eat popsicles” Savanna Varn, 1st grade, said.

The event, organized by Gina Sawicki, reinforced the importance of reading.

Celebrating Native American History

The students of Dorchester Academy were treated to a lesson in Native American history at a school-wide assembly. Winnie Mraz led the program performed by the Cherokee Group. Members performed the Grass Dance, the Butterfly Dance and the Blanket Dance. The K4 and K5 classes also performed a chant and dance. The chapel was presented as part of Native American History month which is celebrated each November.
